This was my mashup epiphany…I’d heard of the idea when someone linked to the Grey Album, but wasn’t really impressed (didn’t have an ear for hip-hop at the time). But this…when “we are young” first bursts in, it still gives me chills just thinking about it. Since then, I’ve gone kind of nuts for ‘em, collecting and collating whatever I can. It’s opened my ears to a ton of music that I’d never have listened to before (turns out hip-hop can be great stuff!), and rekindled my interest in listening to music all the time.
Thanks, DJ Earworm!

what DimwitF said… and more. I’m not lying when i state Earworm remains my all time No.1 masher – this particular number is definitely proof that, people, you have a winner in front of you. On a personal tip, the Worm keeps picking ingredient tracks that i’ve always enjoyed, which of course sends me back for more. You stand out among names like Steinski, Aggro1, Go Home,; people who do it ‘just right’ and on your own bent. It would be a pleasure to meet one day. it’s been great, keep it up.

I’m not a weepy person. This song is so great it’s made me cry more than once. I sometimes imagine a world where this music is legal and embraced by artists and the folks who are featured who are still alive get together and do it live.
And then I weep some more.
Thank you for this track. It makes me happier than you can know.

Just simply amazing. This combines a lot of wonderful songs, and has skyrocketed to my favorite favorite song. Bravo.

I used to be in the radio biz. Was a singer/songwriter before that. Have music in my blood. I HATE remakes. This, on the other hand, is pure genious, and I don’t use the term lightly. You need to have a real ear for this kind of shit and Earworm, you GOT IT!! Not just the right beat and pitch, but lyrically it all blends like it was meant to be. You have a gift. If only you could be filthy rich for it. You deserve that for your craft.

Thisgoes far beyond just a simple mash-up: the complexities, how intricately all of the tracks are woven together, form it into a song all of its own that is brilliantly haunting. It is exquisitely, almost achingly beautiful. Wonderful.

I’ve been around the mashup block, and after a couple of years, this is still front and center in my Hall of Fame.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
September 18th, 2008 at 9:47 am
i agree w/siniman, earworm goes beyond simple mashups and weaves the disperate parts of the different songs together so the lyrical and structural components keep their integrity…making a brand new piece out of pieces of old pieces…something the classical composers did all the time, taking phrases and passages from other composers’ works and incorporating them into their own.
earworm is w/o a doubt the master of this genre…he’s the only artist i’ve ever encountered that creates what it sounds like in my head all the time….

Holy Moses. Bloody awesome. I didn’t think there were that many people other than myself who liked both Laurie Anderson and Art of Noise, let alone saw the musical links.
August 16th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

December 7th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

December 7th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
ohhh i love this…..please make a fall out boy mash up….please please please please please…;) you’re AWESOME!
July 5th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
There’s only one thing that could make this mashup even better: a drop of the “real” Stairway to Heaven. Not that Dolly Parton’s cover sounds badly, though.
As usual, pure genius.

This is amazing! I was linked here by a friend in France who told me this is her favorite song in the world, and I can certainly see why.
January 11th, 2011 at 2:50 pm

Nice topic and post, as we were just talking about what things can happen in the medicine industry.
September 3rd, 2011 at 7:54 am
This is my favorite song that you’ve done. Thanks for sharing it, DJ!
November 11th, 2011 at 11:38 pm
This is not just my favourite ever mash-up, but also one of my all time favourite pieces of music. Simply amazing – it’s the mash-up against which all other mash-ups should be compared.
November 12th, 2011 at 11:01 pm
Wow! this is the first i heard of this! What a voice too on Stairway. It’s like Kate Bush singing like Dolly Parton or vice verse. Either way, grae work. I love it!
February 24th, 2013 at 3:47 am
I thought I had posted this comment once before, but I don’t see it.
I agree with everyone else here: This is literally my favorite mashup ever! At least once, I have gotten people together (in a dark room) to just listen to it.
I totally agree with Dimwith F, and with Maaaty:
when “we are young” first bursts in, it (still) gives me chills;
this is still front and center in my Hall of Fame; and
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Thanks again for making this!
