The State of the State of Pop

I have to say the success of United State of Pop ‘08 (Viva La Pop) has exceeded my most optimistic expectations. It just hit its 1,000,000th view on Youtube, and received enough radio play to make its way onto Billboard’s Pop 100 Airplay chart, peaking at #58, and even breaking into the Pop 100 chart! Not bad, considering a total sales of $0.00, and all the marketing muscle of a guy with a website. Thank you all for your support, your comments, and for spreading the word. There are many exciting developments afoot, so stay tuned!

Bootleg Battle Lines

I’m honored to get this great write-up from MIT’s Technology Review.

It basically compares and contrasts two emerging aesthetics of mashups. One is the more DJ-oriented style of Girl Talk, and the other is the songwriting-oriented style that I tend towards.

The feed has been upgraded, improving the formatting, and allowing for streaming and other functionality within your RSS reader.

If you’re unfamiliar with RSS or podcast:

Subscribing via RSS will let you read about each new update as it comes out. The simplest thing to do is to click HERE, and then click on “Add to Google”, or another service of your preference.

Subscribing via Podcast will automatically download all posted music to your computer (No iPod required). The simplest way to do this is to download and install iTunes. In iTunes, under the advanced menu item, select “Subscribe to Podcast…” and copy and paste the complete URL http://www.djearworm.com/feed/ in the box and click OK. Any new tracks will automatically be downloaded and placed under the “Podcasts” section of your library.

United State of Pop is a Hit

Fueled by an unusually large response from the blogosphere, my most recent mashup has escaped from the internet and on to the radio. According to Mediabase, for the past couple of months United State of Pop has remained one of the 100 most played songs for radio stations in the pop and rhythmic formats. It was the most played song for a while on Philadelphia’s Wired 96.5, where it remains in heavy rotation.
