I’ve always held a deep respect for Annie Lennox and her music, so when she gave me her multi-track masters to mash up, I was thrilled. The task was to tie together all of her solo career into single song and video, and I could deconstruct it as much as I wanted! Woohoo!
Her music expresses much hardship and sadness, but also defiance, joy and triumph, and I wanted the mashup to reflect that journey. Here’s the tracklist:
- Why
- Walking on Broken Glass
- Little Bird
- No More I Love You’s
- Waiting in Vain
- Something So Right
- Dark Road
- Sing
- Shining Light

You are the best! This mashup just keeps growing on me.
One of my favorite things about your mashups is your sometimes brilliant, but always clever, arrangement of lyrics. Sometimes you masterfully rearrange lines to form a coherent lyric far in meaning from the originals, but serving to deliver your own message. Other times you juxtapose lyrics in startling ways, revealing new insight or providing much humor.
To that end, I’ve just spent a little time doing my best to capture the lyrics of Backwards/Forwards. Anyone who wants to take a look, maybe help out where I’ve missed a backing vocal or messed up some line, can find and comment on my working version here::

Keep up the great work, my friend!

BRILLIANT .This was absolutely brilliant to listen to. Sometimes I despair of mashups as I listen to the b’zillionth beastie boy-A+B=mash but then I hear something done as well as this & I am reassured the talent ist still out there.
